Wallets Marts sold 35 store heifers in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £1080 per head and 242.7p per kg to average £885 and 221.5p, while 67 store bullocks peaked at £1355 and 245.5p to level at £1032.09 and 218.7p.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1555 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £100 per head and 215.6p per kg to average 194.9p (+11.8p on the week).
A big show of 1032 cast sheep met a similar trade to last week with heavy ewes selling to £143 for Texels and averaging £82.14, while light ewes peaked at £59.50 twice for Blackfaces and levelled at £41.50.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 28 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 232.7p (-1.1p), while 16 prime bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 213.5p (-13.2p). A couple of prime bulls sold to 200p and averaged 180.4p (-3.6p).
In the rough ring 26 beef cows sold to £1909.44 and 212p to average 150p (+4p).
There were also 1630 prime lambs that sold to £110 and 239.5p to average £85 and 201.7p (+15p).
A good show of 718 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £107 for Texels and average £84, while light ewes peaked at £81 for Cheviots and levelled at £51.
The firm also sold 7 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 223.5p and an average of 198.2p (-9.3p), while 8 prime bullocks peaked at 218.5p and levelled at 189.5p (-19.1p). Forty-nine prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 231.5p and averaged 191.7p (-8.6p), while 47 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 184.5p and levelled at 151.3p (-3.7p).
In the rough ring 112 beef cows sold to 217.5p and averaged 140.1p (-9.8p), while 232 dairy cows peaked at 158.5p and levelled at 112.7p (+1.5p).
There were also 1784 prime lambs that sold to £109.80 and 271.3p to average 198.4p (+2p).
The 198 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £135.50 for Texels and average £76.41, while light ewes peaked at £88.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £44.50.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 16 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 256p and an average of 242.4p (-4.7p), while 3 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 242p and levelled at 216.3p (-8.3p). Eleven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 157.5p and averaged 143p (-1.8p).
In the rough ring 38 beef cows averaged 134p (-1p) and 34 dairy cows levelled at 114p (+2p). Four bulls averaged 121p (no comparison).
The firm also sold 1608 prime lambs to a top of £115.50 and 250p to average 196.4p (+10.3p).
The 270 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £142.50 for a Texel and averaged £75.06, while 180 light ewes peaked at £78.50 for a Blackface and levelled at £44.49.
