LAWRIE & Symington Ltd had 1,420 store lambs forward in Lanark on Friday that sold to £75 for Charollais, £72 Beltex, £70 Texels, £71 Cheviots, £60 Mules and £49.50 for Blackfaces to average £52.36 overall.

C&D Auction Marts sold 163 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 250p per kg and an average of 205.1p (-2.1p on the fortnight), while 174 store bullocks peaked at 270p and levelled at 210.9p (-9.2p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 1,778 prime lambs forward at their weekly sale at Ayr yesterday, but with the Muslim Qurbani Festival finishing on Sunday all lambs proved hard to cash. Top prices on the day were £91 per head and 200p per kg with the overall average levelling at 171.4p (-20.1p on the week).

There were also 784 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes averaged £66.17, while light ewes levelled at £36.41.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 48 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 274p and an average of 235p (+8p), while 19 prime bullocks peaked at 257p and levelled at 233p (+12p). A couple of prime bulls sold to 229p and averaged 228p.

In the rough ring 48 beef cows averaged 151p (+3p).

There were also 2051 prime lambs that sold to £101 and 211.1p to average 181p (-12p).

A large show of 1050 cast sheep saw heavy ewes average £73, while light ewes levelled at £36.

The firm also sold 18 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 240.5p and an average of 190.6p (-30.5p), while six prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 213.5p and levelled at 181.7p (-28.3p). Five prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 165.5p and averaged 156.3p. Forty-seven prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 243.5p and averaged 198.1p (+4.7p), while 32 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 187.5p and levelled at 154.3p (-10.3p).

In the rough ring 117 beef cows sold to 220.5p and averaged 139.2p (-3.9p), while 208 dairy cows peaked at 157.5p and levelled at 110p (-6.5p).

There were also 2,290 prime lambs that sold to £109.80 and 256.7p to average 180p (-15.1p).

A modest show of 222 heavy ewes averaged £64.44, while 58 light ewes levelled at £27.25.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 263p and an average of 243.3p (+1.2p), while 4 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 212p and levelled at 209.5p (-5.8p). Seven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 158p and averaged 152.1p (+0.4p).

In the rough ring 40 beef cows averaged 130p (-4p) and 36 dairy cows levelled at 109p (-3p).

The firm also sold 2669 prime lambs to a top of £98.50 and 217.4p to average 175.1p (-15.1p).

A good show of 453 heavy cast ewes averaged £72.94, while 337 light ewes levelled at £39.72.
