WALLETS Marts sold 3,176 Blackfaces ewe lambs at their annual sale in Castle Douglas on Monday to a top of £134 apiece for a pen off JW Kay & Co, Gass, Straiton followed by a pen from W Wallace & Sons, Fingland at £128. The overall sale average levelled at £78.59 (+£4.23 on the year).

The firm went on to sell 1,228 prime lambs at the same venue yesterday to a top of £108 per head and 274.1p per kg to average 183.7p (-11.3p on the week).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold six prime heifers at Ayr yesterday that sold to 243p per kg, while a couple of prime bulls peaked at 194p.

In the rough ring 100 beef cows averaged 128.8p and 147 dairy cows levelled at 112.9p.

There were only six dairy cattle that sold to £2,020 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1,636.

The firm also had 137 beef-breeding cattle forward.
