Wallets Marts had 1994 breeding sheep forward in Castle Douglas yesterday at their second sale of Scotch Mule ewe lambs that sold to £101 and averaged £80.45 (-£3.04 on the year).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1739 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £90 per head and 200p per kg to average 158.2p (-15.1p on the week).

There were also 1328 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes averaged £61.14 and light ewes levelled at £33.16.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 40 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 265p per kg and an average of 233p (no change), while 14 prime bullocks peaked at 244p and levelled at 216p (-18p).

In the rough ring 50 beef cows averaged 145p (-11p).

There were also 1976 prime lambs that sold to £95 and 206p to average 160.4p (-16.6p).

The 567 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell average £67, while light ewes levelled at £32.

The firm also sold 5 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 221.5p and an average of 209.7p (+1.5p), while 17 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 225.5p and levelled at 197.1p (-5.8p). Six prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 189.5p and averaged 169p (+6.6p). Twenty-seven prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 228.5p and averaged 196.9p (-7.4p), while 44 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 182.5p and levelled at 150.4p (-3.7p).

In the rough ring 202 beef cows averaged 132.3p (-13.1p) and 293 dairy cows levelled at 103.5p (-9.1p).

There were also 1990 prime lambs that sold to £96 and 230.3p to average 165p (-17p).

The 288 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes average £61.88 and light ewes level at £38.12.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 261p and an average of 250.2p (no change), while 5 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 210p and levelled at 209.7p (-2.4p). Seven prime, B&W bullocks sold to 162p and averaged 155.5p (+2.6p).

In the rough ring 90 beef cows averaged 135p (-1p) and 50 dairy cows levelled at 110p (-2p).

The firm also sold 2755 prime lambs to a top of £96.50 and 223.8p to average 157.1p (-19.2p).

A large show of 539 heavy cast ewes averaged £66.53 and 365 light ewes levelled at £36.70.
