UNITED Auction held a sale of suckled calves at Stirling on Monday when 495 heifers averaged 231.3p per kg (+2.5p on the year), while 703 bullocks levelled at 239.3p (+8.8p).

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 24 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 254p and an average of 242.1p (-4.1p on the week), while six prime bullocks peaked at 212p and levelled at 210p (+0.3p).

The firm also sold 2,140 prime lambs to a top of £93.50 per head and 207.8p per kg to average 159p (+1.9p).

A large show of cast sheep saw 548 heavy ewes average £64.24 and 494 light ewes level at £26.27.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 13 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1,288.20 per head and 234p per kg to average £1,170.23 and 223.6p, while five prime bulls peaked at £1,179.20 and 191p to level at £1,117.66 and 181.4p. A couple of prime Ayrshire bullocks averaged £877.30 and 149.3p.

In the rough ring 92 beef cows averaged 126.8p and 120 dairy cows levelled at 105.4p. Eight clean OTM cattle averaged 138.1p and 9 bulls levelled at 116.3p.

The firm also sold 19 dairy cattle to a top of £1920 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and an average of £1405.
