Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 10 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1446 per head and 245p per kg to average £1221.59 and 225.2p, while a prime bullock fetched £1337.50 or 214p.

In the rough ring 105 beef cows sold to £1220 and 176.1p to average 124.8p, while 90 dairy cows peaked at £960 and 133.3p to level at 98.1p. Fourteen clean OTM cattle sold to £1230 and 192.2p to average 151.3p, while 4 bulls peaked at £1100 and 127.2p to level at 102.6p.

There was also a plainer show of 15 dairy cattle that were easy to cash and sold to a top of £1900 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1401.

Wallets Marts sold 1268 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £104 per head and 255p per kg to average £73.08 and 167p (-1.7p on the week).

There were also 757 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes were again easy to sell, but a large show of light, plain ewes was harder to cash. Two-hundred-and-eighty-one heavy ewes sold to £96 for Texels and averaged £59.50, while 448 light/export-type ewes peaked at £70.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £24.53.
