Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 12 prime heifers forward at Ayr yesterday that met a firm demand and were dearer on the week. Top prices on the day were £1487.50 per head or 250p per kg for the same animal, with the final averages levelling at £1237.95 and 227.1p.
In the rough ring all cattle met similar rates to last week with 36 beef cows selling to £1100 and 138.2p and averaging 118.6p, while 96 dairy cows peaked at £1090 and 130.6p to level at 92.3p. Eleven clean OTM cattle sold to £910 and 163.9p to average 134p.
A bigger show of 16 dairy cattle saw all types easily cashed to a top of £1920 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and an overall average of £1469.
Wallets Marts sold 1501 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £109 per head and 269.2p per kg to average £75.57 and 175.3p (+11.3p on the week).
The firm also sold 182 heavy cast ewes to a top of £95 for Texels and an average of £63.31, while 54 light/export-type ewes peaked at £72 for Lleyns and levelled at £37.38.
