C&D Auction Marts Ltd held their fortnightly sale of store cattle in Dumfries yesterday which comprised of mainly dairy crosses. Fifty-six heifers sold to 212.2p per kg and averaged 180p (-8p on the fortnight), while 64 bullocks peaked at 234p and levelled at 197p (-12.4p).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 21 pens of 3 prime lambs forward for judging at their Christmas show and sale when the championship was awarded to Tormitchell Farms, Tormitchell, Pinmore for 3 Beltex that weighed 47kg each and sold for £145 per head or 308.5p per kg. The reserve ticket went to Messrs R Anderson, Old Walls Farm, Galston for Continentals that fetched £125. The 63 show lambs averaged £88.40 per head and 204.1p per kg.

There were also 1645 prime lambs that weren't shown and averaged 180.9p (+6.4p on the week).

A large show of 714 cast sheep met a similar trade to last week with heavy ewes selling to £138.50 for a pen of Texels and averaging £66.14, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £52.50 for a pen of Blackfaces and levelled at £37.11.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 42 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 270p and an average of 231p (-5p), while 30 prime bullocks peaked at 253p and levelled at 218p (+2p). Five prime bulls sold to 270p and averaged 231p.

In the rough ring 88 beef cows sold to 227p and averaged 144p (+8p).

There were also 1952 prime lambs that sold to £112 and 225.9p to average 181.8p (-0.2p).

The 518 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £135 for Beltex and average £81. while light ewes peaked at £71 for Cheviots and levelled at £44.

The firm also sold 15 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 239.5p and an average of 205.8p (+36p), while 20 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 255p and levelled at 217.8p (+18.4p). Four prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 138.5p and averaged 128.7p. Forty-five prime, dairy-bred bulls sold to 235.5p and averaged 194.2p (-5.6p), while 41 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 186.5p and levelled at 157.7p (-7p).

In the rough ring 68 beef cows sold to 214.5p and averaged 125.6p (-6.7p), while 210 dairy cows peaked at 160.5p and levelled at 94.8p (+2.1p). Ten bulls sold to 144.5p and averaged 98.6p (-38.4p).

There were also 2174 prime lambs that sold to £107.80 and 270.4p to average 184.5p (-0.6p).

A small show of cast sheep saw 70 heavy ewes sell to £89.50 for Texels and average £72.81, while a pen of 34 light Hebridean ewes fetched £18.50 apiece.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 27 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 258p and an average of 241.7p (-15.1p), while 7 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 237p and levelled at 226.8p (-29.2p). Eight prime, B&W bullocks sold to 157.5p and averaged 144.4p (-2.8p).

In the rough ring 70 beef cows averaged 118p (-7p) and 36 dairy cows levelled at 90p (no change).
