MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 27 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1,530.65 per head and 253p per kg to average £1,268.16 and 229.6p, while a couple of prime bullocks peaked at £1,445.85 and 243p to level at £1225.40 and 222.8p.

In the rough ring 55 beef cows sold to £1,460 and 167.3p to average 126.8p, while 84 dairy cows peaked at £890 and 107.5p to level at 94.6p. Three bulls sold to £1,100 and 104.8p to average 90.1p, while seven clean OTM cattle peaked at £890 and 167.4p to level at 130.7p.

The firm also had a large show of 21 dairy cattle when the top price of £1,550 was bid on three occasions for an Ayrshire heifer, a Holstein Friesian heifer and a Holstein Friesian second-calved heifer, with the final average levelling at £1293.

Wallets Marts sold 1798 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £104 per head and 260p per kg to average 176.1p (-3.7p on the week).

The cast sheep forward looked easier on the week with 89 heavy ewes selling to £97 for Texels and averaging £64.13, while 281 light/export-type ewes peaked at £56.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £34.89.
