C&D AUCTION Marts Ltd held their fortnightly sale of store cattle in Dumfries yesterday that included a big percentage of stronger, dairy-bred cattle. Eighty-nine heifers sold to 251.9p per kg and averaged 200.6p (+0.3p on the fortnight), while 112 bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 219.2p (+6.9p). Thirty-four B&W bullocks sold to 180.9p and averaged 143p (+0.9p), while 15 store bulls peaked at 295.5p and levelled at 244.7p (+10.2p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1,723 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £108 per head and 250p per kg to average 208.9p (+6.1p on the week and +45.9p on the corresponding sale last year).
The firm also had 1,004 cast sheep forward that met a similar trade to last week with heavy ewes averaging £73.84 and light/export-type ewes levelling at £47.25.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 29 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 247p and an average of 220p (-7p), while 28 prime bullocks peaked at 246p and levelled at 219p (-4p).
In the rough ring 40 beef cows sold to 187p and averaged 140p (-16p).
There were also 1387 prime hoggs that sold to £121 and 245.6p to average 204p (-0.6p).
A nice show of 323 cast sheep saw heavy ewes average £81 and light ewes level at £47.
The firm also sold 16 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 233.5p and an average of 201.9p (-3.9p), while 32 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 253.5p and levelled at 203.3p (+4.7p). Fifteen prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 198.5p and averaged 157.3p (-4.6p). Fifteen prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 228.5p and averaged 196.1p (-10.4p), while 26 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 192.5p and levelled at 166.3p (+16.8p).
In the rough ring 84 beef cows sold to 194.5p and averaged 144.4p (+6.6p), while 214 dairy cows peaked at 164.5p and levelled at 118.7p (+7.1p).
There were also 2136 prime hoggs that sold to £121.80 and 285.6p to average 215.9p (+8p).
A modest show of cast 111 heavy cast ewes averaged £74.84 and 67 light ewes levelled at £40.82.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 16 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 256p and an average of 243.7p (+4.6p), while nine prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 220p and levelled at 208.6p (-4.8p). Fifteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 174p and average 155.7p (+8.7p).
In the rough ring 41 beef cows averaged 132p (-2p) and 100 dairy cows levelled at 113p (-4.2p).
The firm also sold 2041 prime hoggs to a top of £115.50 and 261p to average 205.8p (-1.6p).
The 173 heavy cast ewes forward averaged £78.43 and 586 light ewes levelled at £44.95.
