Panda power

A NEW shipment of pandas have arrived in Scotland and have immediately been put behind bars.

Six years after giant pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang began wowing the nation with their antics at Edinburgh Zoo, online craft drinks specialists Flavourly has struck a deal with leading Chinese craft brewer Panda Brew to import more than 10,000 bottles of its beer.

It is the first time Chinese craft beer has been brought into the country on this scale. Flavourly has a reciprocal import deal in China which it said would benefit both countries.

In further animal beer news, BrewDog has revealed that its Equity for Punks shareholders can now gift shares in the brewery to their dogs as part of a snappily named Equity for Pups scheme.

The Bottom Line can only wonder how The City will react to four-legged investors if BrewDog ever floats on the stock market.

Whole lotta building

ROBERT Plant was in sparkling form when he and his Sensational Space Shifters performed in Glasgow this week. The former Led Zeppelin star, who is perhaps Wolverhampton Wanderers’ most famous fan, seemed particularly taken by the scale of the Armadillo. “I thought we had big buildings in Wolverhampton!” he quipped.

Stay dignified

THE season of the quirky Christmas press release is in full swing, and one which really caught the eye this week was headlined: “The shocking cost of the office party aftermath”.

The Bottom Line has been to a few, shall we say, colourful Christmas parties in its time. But while tales of falling asleep on the last bus and long-distance taxi rides are nothing new, we certainly hadn’t heard of someone deciding not to return to work at all in the aftermath of the big festive bash. Until now.

A survey compiled by easyHotel also found 53 per cent of respondents have lost their mobile on a night out, 33 per cent have lost their keys and 47 per cent, somewhat sadly, have mislaid their dignity – a cautionary tale for anyone who thinks it might be a good idea to approach the photocopier after one too many sherbets.

Two go to Volpa

TWO students from Perth College, part of the University of Highlands, have secured scholarships with Volpa, the Scottish marketing agency.

Lucy Ross, who is studying visual communication and design, and business student Brooke Watson, will each spend 40 hours of work experience at the firm. They will also receive £500 from the agency which can be used in any way to support their studies.

Volpa managing director Tricia Fox said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Lucy and Brooke to the team. They both have a clear desire to learn as much as they can, gaining work experience which will help them determine whether marketing and design are career paths they want to follow.”
