What is it?

A PlayStation 4 follow up to the popular Red Dead Redemption game from 2010.

The latest release from Rockstar Games has been some time in the making, spanning multiple studios and countless development hours.

It is set prior to the original but in roughly the same fictitious region and follows a community of outlaws as they try to escape the authorities in pastures new.

Good Points?

Visually the game is stunning and designed in meticulous detail which is an extraordinary achievement given the vast and seemingly endless expanses of landscape.

Game physics have been polished up a lot since the first instalment with there being very few scenarios where you think "that would never happen in real life".

Game play is as fun as ever with over 60 hours of missions to complete which intertwine whole communities of different characters with unique personalities.

You can't treat every exchange and conversation the same way or you'll soon end up behind bars or dead. Rockstar have applied aspects of different genres for a complete experience.

Bad points?

While the game has been extremely well thought out, the downside is there are so many breadcrumbs to follow it can occasionally feel overwhelming to navigate.

It is easy to get bogged down in the detail – such as making sure your horse is fed and watered – to the extent that they can begin to resemble monotonous chores.

Best for …

Anyone with a PS4 or those thinking about getting one.

Avoid if ...

You are short on free time as it's not a game you can pick up after weeks of inactivity.
