STYLE AND SUBSTANCE
The Inn on Loch Lomond describes itself as “Scottish hospitality reinvented for the 21st Century” and on our stay we could certainly see why. During our visit, we stayed in the Beach House right on the banks of the Loch.
We found the room to be of a very high standard, clean and well appointed, with stunning views over Loch Lomond, with a small jetty in the foreground used for private water trips.
Flat screen TV with satellite, condiments such as tea and coffee and all the usual comforts were available. The Beach House itself comprises of a larger house split up into individually designed en-suite bedrooms and is located just a short walk from the main building.
The setting would certainly be ideal for those looking for a romantic getaway and the perfect place to unwind. Everything felt reasonably modern yet traditional.
SLEEPING MATTERS
Our double bed was furnished with stylish high-quality linens and the bed itself was extremely comfortable. A room with a four poster bed is apparently available on request for those seeking that something just a little special.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Our starters were both delicious and if anything, over generous in the portion sizes. Fine dining is available in both Mr C’s Fish and Whisky Bar/Restaurant or in the more relaxed setting of the bar area for a more casual experience.
Our main comprised of the finest 8oz steak, which we selected as Medium – Rare – and it didn’t disappoint – with Chef creating a unique cheese sauce to accompany the fine steak cut.
DRINK IN THE SIGHTS
Mr C’s extensive Whisky bar has a malt for every taste. Luckily for us, the Bar Manageress Viki Stevenson was on hand to explain the finest that the gantry had to offer.
As a whisky tasting experience alone, a visit to the Inn on Loch Lomond is immediately validated. We were also told by Viki that there are plans to expand out their fledgling Gin Bar, which currently enjoys a modest but exciting variety of Gins.
NICE TOUCH
The addition of his and her gowns, crisply laundered and presented on the bed for our arrival was nice and unexpected, as was the friendly approach by all of the young helpful staff who quite simply couldn’t have done any more to make our stay more enjoyable.
Another pleasant surprise was the discovery of live music on the Saturday evening. This certainly brought Mr C’s Whisky bar to life and was a great way to relax in this most beautiful of settings.
ABOUT THE AREA
There are a large number of water-based activities such as sailing cruises available around the immediate area. Luss is only a short drive away (once famous for “Take the High Road” Scottish soap) and less than 3 miles from the Inn, is the Hotels sister venue the “Lodge on Loch Lomond”.
During our visit to the Lodge, we observed a wedding party enjoying their day in an exclusive area overlooking the beach and the Loch. We bumped into Food & Beverage Director Johnny Aitken who took time from his hectic schedule to explain some of the ongoing plans for the two venues.
It was clear that both have enjoyed substantial investment both in people and furnishings, with the guests clearly enjoying the fruits of those labours. A full list of things to do can be found here:
