Scotland is regarded as one of the most picturesque countries in the world.

From the Edinburgh skyline to the banks of Loch Lomond, the country isn't short of a breathtaking view.

Now a hotel in South Lanarkshire has been crowned the best view in Scotland.

The family-run Hopetoun Arms has always been a firm local favourite but it beat competition from around Scotland to be crowned the country’s best Window with a View.

A regular visitor to the hotel took a photograph from his window and submitted it to the competition.

The hotel beat out entries from around the country, including Banchory Lodge in Aberdeenshire and Ocean Park in Aberdeen, to win the Scottish heat.

The Arms will now go up against nine other regional winners for a chance to claim the UK title.

Hotel owner Rab Campbell said the accolade came as a “lovely surprise”.

James Lee, director of marketing at MyGlazing.com, a glazing federation, said: “We’d like to say a huge congratulations to The Hopetoun Arms for being voted Scotland’s best Window with a View. It truly is a great feat given the standard of entries we received this year."
