A NEW staged performance of music by the award winning singer-songwriter Kathryn Joseph it to tour the UK from September 13.

Joseph will collaborate with the Glasgow-based company Cryptic in a staged, live performance of her new album, From When I Wake The Want Is.

From When I Wake... has music produced by Marcus Mackay, designs by Czech "body architect" Markéta Kratochvílová, set by James Johnson and and lighting by Nich Smith, with direction by Josh Armstrong.

The tour opens at Tramway, Glasgow on 13 September before visiting Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth and London.

It will play at Edinburgh's Summerhall, the Tolbooth in Stirling, Horsecross in Perth and King's Place, London.

A TEXTILE Design graduate, Erin McQuarrie, has been awarded the Newbery Medal at the Glasgow School of Art.

The award, named after former Glasgow School of Art Director Francis “Fra” Newbery, is given annually on the top student graduating from an undergraduate programme at the GSA.

Announced before the disastrous fire at the weekend, McQuarrie, from Glasgow, created a collection of textiles which was inspired by the Mackintosh Building of the fire in 2014.

Four Chairman’s Medals were awarded to graduating students from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, School of Design, Innovation School and School of Fine Art.

The recipients were: Stage 5 Architecture graduate, Callum Ward, Silversmithing & Jewellery graduate, Ailsa Morrant, Product Design graduate Bruce MacDonald and Fine Art Photography graduate, Ruudu Ulas.

THE National Trust for Scotland has unveiled a new garden apprentice scheme to help care for its 38 heritage gardens.

The NTS said there is a "worrying shortage of people with the right blend of skills and experience".

The programme, which will initially seek five apprentice gardeners.

Trainees will be part of the charity’s gardening teams at Brodick, Crathes, Culzean, Greenbank, Hill of Tarvit and Kellie Castle for the next two years.
