How did you get involved in fashion photography, and did you always want to be a photographer?

I kind of fell into it, After Uni I went and worked as assistant to Ryan Mcginley in New York City, he explained from looking at my work that I was a talented portrait artist. I took that on board and started shooting portraits when I arrived home in the UK. Some fashion labels picked up on this and I started shooting more and more fashion, a beautiful accident.

Who was your first, and most latest shoot with?

My first shoots were really Uni projects; my self-initiated Hons piece was a fashion shoot shot entirely underwater. My first commissioned work would have been for the likes of Abandonship Apparel (Glasgow). My latest shoot was for Models1 in London.

When did you realise that photography could be a successful career for you?
I guess that depends on what you mean by success, Money wise I’ve started to earn more than ever before. Personally I judge success on credibility and the acclaim from my colleagues and peers. I have always been lucky enough that my work has been in majority responded to positively, very recently I have started making serious headway in London so around the start to mid 2015 has been incredibly positive. We shall see where my career is at in 5-10 years.

What advice would you give to anyone considering a career in fashion photography?
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, you ultimately learn more from failure than you do from recurring success, Have fun with it, always persevere.

Who is your favourite designer and why?
I love opposite ends of the fashion spectrum, I grew up skateboarding and playing in punk bands so I will always love the likes of Supreme and Palace, I frequented both those stores while recently in London. On the opposite end, I am lucky to have a working relationship with Calvin Klein (they recently gifted me one of their AW 2015 Platinum suits for the Scottish Fashion Awards) so Calvin Klein, Dior and Saint Lauren, there campaigns are always effortlessly ‘cool’.

Describe a standout moment in your career so far?
Working the fashion circuit of the Men’s calendar with Converse. London, Florence, Milan and Paris. Image wise, my recent work for the new ‘NOMAD’ campaign is amongst the strongest body of work I’ve ever created. I am excited to showcase them when launched at the end of the month.
