Having alabaster skin is great, but the curse of pale skin is that it is susceptible to redness and irritation.

In my teenage years I could pretty much slather my face in the cheapest Nivea face cream and still have glowing skin but those days are sadly long gone.

In my twenties my skin was easily aggravated by skincare and cosmetics and was prone to redness and blotchiness.

Now, having recently turned 30, I am determined to take better care of my skin. I recently read a quote which stated: "Before 30 you have the skin you are born with; after 30, you get the skin you deserve." This realisation forced me to rethink my skincare regime.

In a quest to soothe my often-irritated skin, I have been trying out ranges suited to sensitive skin types.

One of my favourite discoveries is Darphin's Intral range which features moisturisers, a cleanser, toner and serum and is formulated to suit delicate skin. My hero product from the range is the Intral Soothing Cream, £43. This lightweight moisturiser contains no synthetic preservatives or colourants, so it suitable for delicate skin. It provides skin with a hit of moisture as well as relieving redness and signs of sensitivity. Darphin puts their trademark blend of plant extracts, the calm complex, into all the products in the Intral range which makes them effective for those with intolerant skin.

French skincare companies really excel when it comes to skincare for sensitive skin types. Within their sensitive skin range, Clarins have the Gentle Day Cream, £36, and Gentle Night Cream, £40, which are great at both hydrating and soothing the skin. Their Sensitive Skin Beauty Repair Concentrate, £40, is handy when you have inflammation and episodes of redness and irritation as the concentrate treats and relieves these skin concerns.

I am a big fan of the Australian beauty brand Jurlique so I was thrilled to discover that they are launching a skincare range aimed at sensitive skin later this month. The Calendula Redness Rescue range includes a serum, a moisturising cream and a calming mist. I have been given access to the range before it launches and after trialing the products, I am very impressed. The calming mist has become a fixture on my desk and helps ward off flushed cheeks by helping keep my skin hydrated and cool.
