THEIR motto is "Be Prepared" but nothing could have readied the Boy Scouts of America for this week's controversial address by President Donald Trump.

And no matter how much I prepare, my life often goes awry too. At our house it’s usually the traditional Sunday lunch which suffers, either we forget to pick up the meat or time slips away. This is often due to enjoying the local beer garden, where it’s easier to grab a bite and let the children run about with their friends. You may think I'm just relaxing but it's work (honest) because when I'm thinking up concepts for pubs and restaurants I always keep one thing in mind: would I like to go?

I’ve always wanted a place where I can get a succulent full bird roast with all the trimmings, with no planning, supermarket runs or cooking and the Kelbourne Saint is the result. Signature chickens spin around the rotisserie beside the bar, basting under maple glazed pineapples.

So what to drink? With roast chicken it's got to be Apache Pilsner – brewed crisp and clean with none of that over-powering hop nonsense. It’s served from the tank on site and made fresh every week at West Brewery.

I won’t lie - it’s the reason I’ve eaten chicken for the last three days straight and you won’t hear me complaining.
