Now, all Bake Off fans know that Marry Berry isn’t one to turn down a little bit of booze in her cooking. In fact, it’s often the more the merrier for Bezza.

But there’s a new tipple that even Mary couldn’t get on board with – garlic beer.

Mary BerryMary very clearly enjoyed the garlic beer (BBC)

In Mary Berry’s Foolproof Cooking on BBC Two, our queen of tarts visited a garlic farm on the Isle of Wight where she was tempted to try some unusual treats including garlic brownies and garlic beer.

“Gosh, that’s very warming , isn’t it?” she whispered with a sly lick of her lips.

But, the garlic farmers pressed, did she like it?

“I think I could get to like it,” said Mary in the most gracious “no” TV has ever heard  - and Twitter loved her for her diplomacy.

Because let’s face it, garlic beer sounds like a big no-no (even if grown by a silver fox farmer).

In the rest of the show, Mary cooked a selection of delicious recipes, including smoked mackerel pate, Mexican tortilla bake and creme caramel in her second episode.

The baking maven is like the perfect grandma: friendly smile, chic hairdo and the ideal Victoria sponge to pass down the generations.

But there were a few “tips” in this week’s show that raised eyebrows.

Like how to best peel a young butternut squash.

And to use a paintbrush as a pastry brush.

And *gasp* using shop-bought tortillas in her Mexican tortilla bake.

Is Mary picking up her tricks from Delia Smith now?
