The people of Glasgow would have been forgiven for thinking they'd been transported into a game console today, as two of the world's most famous playable characters, Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario, descended on Glasgow.

The iconic duo jumped, rolled and flipped through the city ahead of this weekend's Play Expo event - the first to take place in Scotland.

The spectacular two-day event, designed as a celebration of gaming culture through the ages, will take place at Braehead Arena on Saturday, June 11th and Sunday 12th, and is expected to attract more than 4000 people.

Tickets for the event are available from www.playexpoglasgow.com/tickets priced from £8.00.

Andy Brown, Managing Director of Replay Events, and the organiser behind PLAY Expo, said: "We're incredibly excited about PLAY Expo coming to Scotland for the very first time. Scotland is a hotbed of gaming talent and the community has continued to thrive in recent years, so it was a natural decision for us to head north of the border.

"We have already had huge interest in the event and are anticipating a full house over the two days. We look forward to welcoming everyone to PLAY Expo Glasgow, whether you're a hardcore gamer or simply looking to dip your toe for the very first time - it really is a great day out for everyone."

The event, designed for both children and adults, will also boast an Indie Zone curated by Edinburgh gaming outfit We Throw Switches, a Cosplay stage and a number of nail-biting game tournaments, brought to you by local communities Versus Scotland and Geek Retreat.
