What is it?

A home wi-fi system combining router and signal extender devices known as satellites. Netgear's aim is to eliminate signal dead spots in homes and provide a strong connection no matter which room you find yourself in.

Good points?

The Orbi combines everything you could want in a wi-fi system: it is easy to set up, provides good coverage and maintains a solid connection. The design is simple and looks like one of those automatic air fresheners you see on TV. The router with its blue top is visibly distinguishable from the white topped satellite. A stable connection between the devices is provided by a unique frequency band that won't pick up interference from other household gadgets.

Bad points?

Powering down either the router or satellite can cause major hassle when trying to connect them again. I believe that security measures prohibit re-synchronisation on the same communication settings and need to be reset but there is no information to confirm this.

No less noteworthy is the fact that paying more than £300 for a wi-fi router is a big outlay.

Best for ...

Those with bigger homes who find it hard to access the web in rooms far from the standard internet hub.

Avoid if ...

You don't have a few hundred pounds to spare as cheaper alternatives will give nearly as good coverage for half the price.
