As autumn approaches, the changing season offers a great excuse for a few home updates. It’s easy to make some simple changes in your lounge or bedroom to shake things up and make your house a fashionable oasis. Next, Debenhams, House of Fraser, Marks and Spencer, John Lewis and the brilliant new H&M homeware on Buchanan Street are great go-to stores where you will always find something to covet, whilst Watt Brothers on Sauchiehall Street is a Glasgow institution filled with must- haves for every room at great prices.
Trends for this autumn include the use of inky dark hues, for an opulent and dramatic look. Try a statement piece in aubergine, forest green or teal to inject a little theatre into your home. Easy updates can be made with velvet cushions or a stylish lamp to add a pop of jewel colour. Banish pastels for the time being and go for a bolder look. Black and gold are also a recurring theme in Autumn 17’s collections. Think classy hotel interiors, with matt black and clean crisp white accented with metallic. And the timeless Nordic neutrals remain in vogue again this Autumn/Winter with chunky throws, lots of candles and cosiness. Sheepskins, natural wood and felt accentuated with fresh greenery and delicate lighting make for a peaceful and easy to live with look. Add a few throws to your sofa sticking to a neutral palette of greys creams and whites and drape some fairy lights from Flying Tiger, Buchanan Galleries, around houseplants for an instant pick me up and antidote to chilly evenings.
