The owner of a new deluxe hotel in Glasgow has said he is not chasing a Michelin star.

Ken McCulloch, who earned the prestigious culinary honour when he ran One Devonshire Gardens, is opening a new hotel in the centre of the city, Dakota Deluxe.

McCulloch said he and his team are not driven by the quest for a Michelin star.

Edinburgh has four of Scotland's thirteen Michelin stars.

Glasgow has not had one since Gordon Ramsay closed Amaryllis, at Devonshire Gardens, in 2003.

McCulloch, who has spent a decade abroad, said: "We won't commit hari kiri if we don't get one.

"People find you if you're doing it right.

"Good quality does the talking for you."

He says that the food at the new hotel, off Blythswood Square, will be "one notch above" his competition.

He said: "Dakota Deluxe is for people who can't find anywhere in Glasgow they can connect with.

"I want to give them somewhere to go that makes them feel special, and sadly I don't see much of that right now.

"Michelin star food becomes occasional food, not everyday food.

"We don't went people to feel they have to whisper in our restaurant."
