Outlander star Sam Heughan has been unveiled as the first global brand ambassador for Barbour.

The Scots actor announced his collaboration with the iconic brand on Twitter.

He told his followers: "Great to share that I'm Barbour's first Global Brand Ambassador! Thrilled to be working with such an iconic brand."

The British brand said that the actor was an 'ideal choice' for its first Global Brand Ambassador.

The Scots star, who found fame as Jamie Fraser in the hit US television show Outlander, grew up in Galloway, a short distance from where John Barbour, the brand's founder, lived.

The new role will allow Heughan to collaborate with Barbour on photoshoots and appearances. He will also develop his own signature capsule collection, which will incorporate the firm's renowned exclusive tartans.

The Herald:

He said: "Being Scottish, I grew up with the brand and have always been a big fan. Being born in the same rural area as John Barbour, in the south of Scotland, I have a great passion for the company and their employees that feels more like I've been welcomed into their extended family.

"I very much look forward to designing my own capsule collection based on this ethos and to representing the brand in the UK, the US and internationally."
