A chainsaw is understood to have been involved in what police have described as a "disturbance" in the Highlands which saw two people injured.

One, a man in his 70s, had be transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary in a critical but stable condition.

A 49-year-old man was arrested and detained by police in connection with the incident at a property in the village of Caol beside Fort William on Tuesday night.

A woman in her 60s was treated at Belford Hospital in Fort William before being released later.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident in Caol at about 20:30.

Police Scotland said: "The public in the local community are thanked for their patience and understanding whilst the matter was dealt with by officers."
