IT’S changed days and sorry reading when one teacher in seven in Scotland is the recipient of online abuse or threats by parents and pupils all too ready to publicise grievances, whether it is real, misconceived or vindictive, instead of taking recourse to available channels for appropriate concerns.

Looking back to my schooldays many years ago, I knew better than disclose teacher trouble at home and risk more censure, or at best be told to just get on with it (“Teachers facing online abuse”, and Leader Comment, The Herald, March 25 ).

Respect and civility are fortunately still practised by the majority but mischief-making by a minority of parents and pupils bent on behaving like the terrible twos or frightful fives must make a difficult job even harder.
