The hashtag #DoSomethingKind has started to trend on Twitter, thanks to late footballer Ugo Ehiogu.

As the world of sport reels from the news the former Rangers star has died at the age of 44, the footballer’s inspirational last message on the social media platform has spurned a trend.

Just three weeks ago, Ehiogu told his almost 13,000 followers: “Gave a homeless girl £10 last night in Dalston. She didn’t ask or beg.Random impulsive act from me. Not gona lie. Felt good. #dosomethingkind.”

Social media users have now started to retweet the message in memory of the player who died after collapsing at Tottenham’s training centre on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Ehiogu, who scored the winning goal – his first for the Ibrox club – in a 1-0 defeat of Celtic in 2007, had been overseeing the club’s under-23s.
