A SUSPECT package has been delivered to a MP's office in Kirkintilloch.

The alarm was raised at MP John Nicolson, a member of the SNP, office at around 12.20pm today.

It is understood that police evacuated residents from the tenement flats above and they were taken into the Kirky Puffer pub next door in the area's Townhead.

The Herald:

Police Scotland's Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Mawson said: "It was around 12.20pm, police and emergency services responded to a report of a suspicious package having been delivered to the constituency office of John Nicolson MP at Townhead, Kirkintilloch.

"It is not yet known what is in the package or if it is in anyway harmful but as is procedure for any suspect package, police are in attendance and enquiries are continuing."

Nicolson is currently fighting for re-election June’s snap general election.

The MP later took to social media to praise the police for their response.
