POLICE have launched a hunt for a man who carried out a 'despicable attack' on a toddler with a boiled egg on Easter Sunday.

The 16-month-old boy was playing in his garden with his mother when the suspect came in and threw the egg at him, causing him to fall over.

The child was not injured.

Police are treating the incident in Forres, Moray, as an assault and launched an appeal for witnesses.

Local investigating officer, Constable David Baird said: "This is a particularly despicable incident where a person has thrown an object which has struck a defenceless young toddler.

"Thankfully the child wasn't injured as a result however he and his Mum were left shaken and very upset by the incident.

"I would like to appeal to the public to think back to Easter Sunday and try to remember if they noticed anyone activing suspiciously in the Califer and Culbin road areas at this time.

"I would also like to stress that this is an extremely serious matter The incident happened at 1.15pm on April 16, 2017 in the town's Califer Road.

Constable Baird added: I would urge anyone who knows anything about this incident to get in touch with police.

"The assault of a baby is completely unacceptable and rest assured we will take every measure open to us to find whoever is responsible for this."

The suspect is described as about six ft four inches tall.

He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, blue jeans and black trainers.

He has distinctive blue eyes.

Constable Baird added: "I would be very keen to speak to this man or to anyone who recognises the description of has any information on this incident."
