I FIND myself once again in frustrated agreement with Kevin McKenna (“Giving huge IT deal to foreign firm is a betrayal of Scotland”, The Herald, May 13).

Can someone please tell me and all concerned readers just how we can make our councillors, MSPs and MPs fully accountable to their electorate? It seems that voting one way or another doesn't make any real difference. The feeling of being continually ripped off is palpable.

What is so wrong with supporting local businesses, especially given the track record of companies like CGI?

We almost lost the Ferguson shipyard due to the subsidies given to competing yards in Europe. And the list goes on.

Years ago, I recall that you published a piece on well-run businesses in Scotland that had been acquired by companies in England and then moved south and/or asset-stripped. Is there a case for another such survey, but broadened to cover the inferences made by Kevin McKenna today?
