RANGERS manager Pedro Caixinha will name either Carlos Pena or Eduardo Herrera in his squad to face Progres Niederkorn tonight.

The two Mexicans joined the Ibrox club earlier this summer but are still short of fitness following an extended summer break.

Neither player was named in the Portuguese's team at Ibrox last Thursday, when the Light Blues recorded a 1-0 first leg win over the Luxembourg outfit.

But speaking to Rangers TV, Caixinha revealed that one of the pair will make the cut for the clash at the Stade Josy Barthel this evening.

He said: “We have brought 20 players. We will always bring three goalkeepers in case something happens with one of the goalkeepers, and regarding to the outfield positions, we will always bring one extra player again, with regards to the same situation.

“One of them, Herrera or Pena will be out. I just need to have my final analysis to come to that conclusion and pass it to the player. They are a still a level below the others, but they did well in our match at the weekend.

“They received an hour against Raith Rovers, but it is not enough and it is totally different. Their vacation period was totally different too – three times what we received. So the preparation phase is three times less, so we need to wait a little bit more on them, be patient, and get them integrated in the team, in the group, and that is one of the reasons why we brought them over.

“We haven’t had the time, for example, to get the team together in one hotel, so why not bring them? It is also important for us to get the relations and bonds in the team for them to get to know each other better.”

If the Gers book a spot in the second qualifying round, they will likely meet AEL Limassol of Cyprus, who hold a 4-0 advantage from their first leg tie against St Joseph's of Gibraltar.

Caixinha urged the Rangers support to continue to back the players in order to help them extend their European campaign as far as possible.

“For sure, and we want to give them more travels like that, to give them a longer one after this and we want to keep going," he said.

“They need to understand the support they are giving us is really, really helping us and it is working like an extra player and an extra motivation.

“We will do everything which is reachable to us and is possible for us to do in order for us to get to the group stage.

"That is our goal, that is our target, and that is the way we need to have vision regarding to tomorrow’s match and having that mission to accomplish that we need to do everything to get there.”
