AN EXHIBITION of work by staff at the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts (LAFA) of China will form a centrepiece of the Glasgow School of Art's forthcoming programme. The first part of an exchange which will see Glasgow School of Art staff showing work in China next year, East and West Walk Forward, will feature work by 35 artists who also teach at the GSA’s partner institute in China.

Professor Alistair Payne, head of the school of Fine Art at the Glasgow School of Art said: "The GSA has been working in partnership with LAFA for the last four years and we are delighted to be able to offer this showcase of work by our colleagues in China."

East and West Walk Forward will open in the Reid Gallery on September 23 and run through to October 29.

THE Dovecot centre in Edinburgh has announced Celia Joicey as its new director, succeeding David Weir after his 17-year leadership.

Joicey, pictured, is currently Head of the Fashion and Textile Museum in London, having joined in 2011. Prior to joining the Fashion and Textile Museum, she was Head of Publications at the National Portrait Gallery. She is a graduate of Cambridge University and the Royal College of Art.

Alastair Salvesen CBE, chair of The Dovecot Foundation, said: “I am delighted with the appointment of Celia Joicey, who brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the organisation and leadership of galleries and their activities, particularly in an area of direct relevance to tapestry."

Weir said: "After 17 years of developing Dovecot to the place it occupies today, it feels the right moment to hand over the reins to a new director to help bring Dovecot into the next phase of its history.

DAUVIT (Davie) Broun, Professor of Scottish History and director of ArtsLab at the University of Glasgow, has become one of 66 of the world’s leading minds to be elected as Fellows of the British Academy.

Professor Roibeard Ó Maolalaigh, Vice Principal and Head of the College of Arts, paid tribute to Professor Broun: “This honour is richly deserved. The British Academy recognises the inspirational work he has carried out over many years to building up Scottish History and Scottish Studies here at the University of Glasgow."

Professor Broun added: “I am delighted that research in medieval Scottish history has been recognised by scholars at the highest level working in medieval studies in the UK."
