THE house where racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart was born and grew up in has gone on the market.

Rockview, in Dumbuck, West Dumbartonshire, has been put up for sale with an asking price of offers over £199,500.

Sir Jackie lived at the detached property for 23 years, and said he was born on the dining room table.

The current owners of the home, which comes with a blue plaque commemorating it as the Formula One Champion's birthplace, are friends of the Stewart family and say he drops by when in the area.

Damon and Elaine Lindsay have highlighted Sir Jackie's connection to the three-bedroom house in the buyer's guide.

Mrs Lindsay, 47, said: "It would be rare for him to be in the area and not pop by. The house has so many memories, and he was born in it, so it really means a lot to him.

"He loves cheese and chutney sandwiches, so buyers would be advised to keep some handy. When he discovered we were selling the house he joked about buying it and moving it brick by brick back to his own place.

"It has been a great house for my family and is a good family home with many attractive qualities. And the chance of a visit by Sir Jackie is always on the horizon."

Sir Jackie has often talked of growing up in the house, near where his father owned and ran a garage.

He said: “I was born on the dining room table in the room nearest the garage, which we called the living room. It was also where we ate and sat at night in front of the fire. I lived there until I was 23. I shared a room with my brother upstairs.”

During his racing career Sir Jackie won the F1 championships and took 27 chequered flags and earned 43 podium places. He was knighted in 2001.
