He has clocked up 12,000 nautical miles saving lives at sea off Scotland’s west coast.

GP Colin Wilson had no sooner celebrated completing his 600th call-out, as a volunteer crewmember of Oban RNLI lifeboat, than he was out on his 601st shout, less than 24 hours later.

Dr Wilson’s 600th shout was logged on Saturday, when the lifeboat assisted the Scottish Ambulance Service to get an injured fisherman off a vessel that was tied up at Oban’s Railway Pier.

But he was back in action the following day to help someone injured their ankle on Luing. Oban-based Dr Wilson, 61, said he feels he has "made a difference."
