The grieving husband of tragic West Lothian woman Kirsty Maxwell has today commemorated her birthday and their first wedding anniversary four months after she plunged to her death from a Benidorm hotel balcony.
Adam Maxwell paid tribute to “our beautiful girl” in a moving statement as he also issued a new image of his beaming late wife who would have turned 28 today.
Describing the past “four long, hard months,” Mr Maxwell highlighted how the family “now face another very difficult week without Kirsty.”
The 27-year-old added: “Today would have marked Kirsty’s 28th birthday, 28 years of wonderful memories, 28 years we were lucky to have her.

“Followed in a few days time by what should have marked our 1st wedding anniversary together as husband and wife.
“So many happy memories of Kirsty amongst so much sadness.
“As a family over the next week we will be paying tribute to our beautiful girl.
“We remember her big smile and loving heart, we will cherish the memories you gave us and celebrate the life we shared.
“I would also again like to thank you all for the respect, privacy and support you continue to provide.

“It means so much to us as a family. Thank you all so much.”
Mrs Maxwell died after falling from the 10th floor of an apartment block while on a hen do in Benidorm in April.
She had travelled with 34 friends just weeks after marrying her boyfriend.
Five British men were quizzed by police over the tragedy as it was claimed Mrs Maxwell may have been trying to flee a sex attack at the Apartamentos Payma.
Callum Northridge, 27, Ricky Gammon, 31, Daniel Bailey, 32, and 34-year-old Anthony Holehouse all denied any involvement in Kirsty’s death.
Joseph Graham, 32, was previously quizzed by police, but then released.

In July, the men released a joint statement and said: “This was a tragic accident and we categorically deny any involvement in this unfortunate incident.
“It goes without saying that our deepest sympathy goes out to Kirsty’s family and our thoughts are with them all at this terrible time.”
Coatbridge man Craig Mallon, 26, was also killed during a stag weekend in Spain in the early hours of May 19, 2012.
The investigation into his death has slowly ground to a halt and no-one has ever been arrested.
On this, Mrs Maxwell’s family said yesterday: “Kirsty’s family and Craig Mallon’s family have had recent separate meetings with their respective elected members who have indicated they will examine the issues regarding support for Scottish families losing loved ones to homicide or unexplained death abroad.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
