GLASGOW-based pianist Paul Harrison continues his celebration of Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist Egberto Gismonti with four concerts this autumn featuring his Trio Magico group. Gismonti is one of South America’s most prolific composers, drawing on the European orchestral tradition – he studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris – as well as indigenous Brazilian dance metres and the traditions of the Xingo region of the Amazon. Harrison is joined in Trio Magico by bassist Mario Caribe and drummer Stuart Brown. The group appears at The Blue Lamp, Aberdeen on Thursday, September 21 and the Tron Theatre, Glasgow on Sunday, September 24, with gigs at the Jazz Bar in Edinburgh and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall following on November 16 and December 2 respectively.

CHILDRENS television show Raven is to receive a Gaelic makeover. The new Raven is being produced for BBC Alba, with new presenter Aisha Toussaint undertaking the challenge of learning Gaelic for the spin-off, Fitheach, which is being produced in collaboration with CBBC and will be broadcast in early 2018.
A specially cast group of Gaelic-speaking children will be filming in locations around Scotland, from Aviemore to Dunbar.
The original Raven arrived on screens in 2002 and ran for eight successful years, following a mythical Scottish warrior, who could shape-shift into a bird.
Ms Toussaint, pictured, said: "I remember Raven growing up, and I never thought I would ever get the opportunity to present it. I think it’s great that we are filming several episodes in Gaelic, and being inclusive to all Scottish children. Learning a Gaelic script has been tough, but I’ve really enjoyed the challenge."

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
