GRAHAM DORRANS has backed Rangers team-mate Ryan Jack to make a bid for a Scotland cap call if he can continue his fine form this term.

The midfielder has made an impressive start to life at Ibrox following his move from Aberdeen and has quickly become an integral part of Pedro Caixinha’s side.

While Dorrans isn’t focusing on a return to the national setup at present, he believes Jack can earn himself a place in the squad after boss Caixinha tipped the 25-year-old to take the next step in his career.

Dorrans said: “Ryan’s been great. I saw him from afar when I was playing in England. But since I’ve come up I’ve been really impressed with him.

“He’s a comfortable footballer, can take the ball anywhere on the pitch, he’s good at passing and he gets about the park very well.

“If he keeps doing what he’s doing I’m confident he’ll be in there soon.

“First and foremost it’s about me coming here and establishing myself in this team.

“We’ll see what happens after that. It’s not really something I’ve given much thought to at the moment.”

Dorrans and Jack have been first picks for Rangers so far this term and again lined up together as Caixinha’s side beat Dundee 4-1 on Saturday.

Midfielder Carlos Pena got his first goal for the Light Blues since joining from Chivas and Dorrans reckons there is plenty more to come from the Mexican.

He said: “It takes people time to settle in. Al (Morelos) has hit the ground running.

“It might take Carlos a little bit longer but he’s got quality and he’s got his goal. Hopefully that will bring confidence out in him and he can continue to get goals for us.”

It was a comfortable afternoon at Ibrox as Caixinha’s side recorded their third win of the Premiership campaign.

Striker Morelos bagged a double to take his tally to seven in his last five games and Dorrans has been impressed with the Colombian kid so far this term.

Dorrans said: “He has done great. It’s obviously difficult for the boys coming over here from different countries but they’ve all helped each other settle in and the British boys have helped them as well.

“They’re settling in as a group. Long may it continue. If he keeps scoring, it will be great for us.

“He’s a natural scorer. You can see it every day in training. He’s a good finisher and he’s practising it so hopefully he can continue that in the games we have coming up.

“He’s a strong boy. He is still young so he’s in the gym every day doing his work.

“He’s got a good physique about him and he is strong on the ball. He’s a good finisher so hopefully he can continue and go on to better things for us.”
