PEDRO CAIXINHA admits Rangers’ failure to capitalise while they were on top cost them dear as they dropped another two Premiership points against Partick Thistle last night.

The Light Blues were held to a 2-2 draw at the Energy Check at Firhill Stadium as they missed the chance to move top of the standings.

Alfredo Morelos fired the Gers in front but it took a late leveller from Graham Dorrans to rescue a draw for Caixinha’s side.

He said: "I'm disappointed. I think we dropped two points.

“We were coming with just one desire. The only thing in our head was to take the three points.

"When we scored with 15 minutes to go I head the idea that we would push on for the win.

"But during the first half when we had such clear chances to go and kill the game and didn't take them, I had a feeling it was going to cost us.

"The reality is the game penalises you in that direction.

"The first half was like a transition game. We could not play like that - no team could play like that. So we need to have better decisions and the team has to be more compact.

"We committed two mistakes that led to the opponents goals. For the first, we lost a duel on the half-way line and another duel on the edge of the box. We need to avoid those type of things that give the momentum and confidence to the opponents.

"For the second, the full-back should have defended from the inside. He didn't and let the ball pass him by and from there it was an easy cross.

"We tried to change to give us more aggression and more presence offensively but once again we could not be clear and crystal to deliver the best cross or the best shot on goal, with the exception of Dorrans' goal.”

Rangers made the trip across Glasgow with a third successive Premiership win in their sights but were left frustrated at the end of an entertaining affair.

Caixinha’s side will face the Jags once again when they return to Firhill on Tuesday night bidding for a place in the Betfred Cup semi-finals.

But the Portuguese could be without captain Lee Wallace after he was forced off early on and had to be replaced by summer signing Declan John.

He said: “As you now he’s been feeling something on the groin since the surgery.

“It’s a question of balance. He felt it so we had to make the substitution early on in the game.

“I think Declan did okay. Now we have options.

“I’ll need to evaluate the situation with the doctors. Now is premature to talk about it.”
