YOU report on calls for the Church of Scotland to attend wedding fairs in some opinions to "counter the rise" of Humanist marriages (“Call for Church to attend wedding fairs to counter Humanist services”, The Herald, October 3). As Scotland's national Humanist charity we will be delighted to meet local ministers at future wedding fares.

Of course we are not in competition with each other, the society marries Humanists and the Kirk marries Christians. We know that for the more than 50,000 people we have married since 2005, that Humanist values are very important to them. Similarly I have no doubt that Christian values are important to those who choose a church wedding and the Kirk would agree with us that couples can choose be married in the way that is meaningful to them.
