Newly crowned Marine Harvest Premier League shinty champions Kinlochshiel are the best represented club in the Scotland squad for this month’s cross-code international against Ireland’s hurlers.

The annual event represents the only opportunity for Scotland and Ireland to field national teams in their unique stick handling sports played under compromise rules, their encounters dating back to the 19th century and the Scots boast a fine recent record, having won five of the last seven encounters ahead of the October 21 clash at the Bught Park in Inverness.

Eight clubs are represented in all with that Kinlochshiel contingent including MacRae brothers Finlay, John and Keith.

Four players - Andrew King, Daniel Grieve, Craig Mainland and Mike Russell – are selected for the first time.

“We have a good mixture of youth and experience and all the players have worked well throughout the preparation sessions, so I am confident we will provide a highly competitive match on home soil against the Irish,” said Scotland manager Ronald Ross.

The full Scotland squad is: Kevin Bartlett (Caberfeidh), John Barr (Glenurquhart), Ryan Borthwick (Kingussie), Conor Cormack, Mark MacDonald, Finlay MacRae, John MacRae and Keith MacRae (all Kinlochshiel), Grant Irvine, Andrew King and Roddy MacDonald (all Kyles Athletic), Daniel Grieve, Stuart MacDonald, Craig Mainland and Greg Matheson (all Lovat), Rory Kennedy, Steven MacDonald, Glen MacKintosh and Mike Russell (all Newtonmore), Daniel Cameron (Oban Camanachd)
