I HAVE enjoyed the correspondence about grammar (Letters, September 26-October 3 & October 9). I am of the generation which was taught grammar from primary school on and who had to parse sentences in the Higher English examination.

The other day, however, my three-year-old grandson gave me pause for thought. My husband and I took him to visit the wind farm at Eaglesham. After the visit our grandson said to me: "Where is me going now?"

I said automatically: "Where am I going now?"

I was treated to a long, pitying stare and the reply "Granny, it is me what is going."

Grammatical? No. Understandable? Absolutely.
