Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata has said that he and his teammates won’t be complaining about the physicality of Motherwell ahead of the Betfred Cup final, and will just be getting on with the job at hand.
Much has been made of the style adopted by Stephen Robinson’s men as they booked their place in the Hampden showpiece by sweeping aside Rangers on Sunday, and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers expressed sympathy for Ibrox boss Pedro Caixinha over the inaction of referee Steven McLean over the Steelmen’s approach to the match.

But Belgian international Boyata says that he can’t see what all of the fuss is about, backing Celtic to overcome whatever challenge they may face come late November in Mount Florida.
“We are up to playing against any kind of team,” said Boyata. “Yeah, Motherwell were physical. But if you look at the other side then Rangers missed a lot of chances as well. The result could have been different.
“Yes, they were very physical, but I wasn’t really shocked because we know how the teams play. There are very physical teams and very athletic teams.
“[Rangers] complaining about that? I don’t know. As I said, we can cope with any type of teams.
“Of course, I like to play football, but I am a defender first. Defenders defend. I don’t know if I enjoy that physical side, but I am a defender. And defenders defend.”
