ROSS Callachan has vowed to work on his finishing with his less favoured left foot after passing up a chance against Rangers which could have sealed victory for Hearts at BT Murrayfield on Saturday, writes Matthew Lindsay.

The former Raith Rovers midfielder was through on the visitors’ goal with just keeper Wes Foderingham to beat shortly after Kyle Lafferty had put his team in front in the first half.

But he failed to convert the opportunity and the Ibrox club came back and won the game 3-1 thanks to a Kenny Miller double and a late Josh Windass effort.

“I will not have sleepless nights about it, but I was disappointed I never scored,” said Callachan. “You are always disappointed when you have a chance and you don’t score.

“You need to make the goalie work and I made the goalie work. But if I score and we go 2-0 up it’s a different game. I just need to keep working on my left foot. I am confident that if that had been on my right foot it is probably a goal. I just need to to keep working hard and keep getting better personally.”

Meanwhile, Callachan has refused to get drawn into a public spat with Marvin Bartley after the Hibernian player posted a derogatory comment about him on Twitter after Hearts had lost the Edinburgh derby at Easter Road last week.

“It is what it is,” he said. “It is out of my control isn’t it. These things happen.”
