1. A Night With Gordon Brown and Rory Bremner

Join Gordon Brown and Rory Bremner for a special, one-off Q&A  session to mark the launch of the former Prime Minister’s memoirs, “My Life, Our Times.” Brown’s candid story and Britain’s longest-serving Chancellor will tell of a remarkable life in politics, all the while referring back to his book which provides critical insights into key relationships in Westminster, global conflicts, the coalition negotiations of 2010, as well as the referendums on Scottish independence and Britain’s exit from the EU.

2. Lampedusa
Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, until November 18

This searing play about the migrant crisis tells the stories of human kindness behind the headlines. The Italian island of Lampedusa is where fisherman Stefano once made a living. Now, he uses his boat to collect the bodies of drowned migrants from the sea. Meanwhile, in the UK, a Chinese-British student is forced to go door to door as a payday lender to finance her degree where she meets grinding poverty and racial prejudices as well as small acts of charity.

3. Jon Richardson: Old Man
Edinburgh Playhouse, today

The star of 8 Out Of 10 Cats kicks off the Scottish leg of his UK tour in the capital where he will be complaining about the state of the world, all the while offering no solutions. Since his last show, the comedian has seen the UK vote to leave the EU and watched the rise of Trump, all of which leaves him scratching his head.

4. Colours of Cluny
Grant Park, Forres, until November 19

With the massive success of the show in 2016, this year promises to be even more spectacular and magical. 5. Terra Naomi
Beveridge Park Hotel, Kirkcaldy, Saturday

The indie folk-pop singer/songwriter from Los Angeles returns to the UK to play just two shows in Scotland with some fantastic support from Fife-based David Stevens, lead singer of Oskar Braves, singer-songwriter Megan D from Edinburgh, and Fife’s own Amy Lou.

6. Harry Potter: History of Magic
Mitchell Library, Glasgow, until December 29

Journey to where magic and myth began with this exhibition and delve into Divination, ponder the peculiarities of Potions and discover magical creatures? In partnership with the British Library, the Mitchell is capturing the traditions of folklore and magic at the heart of the smash-hit Harry Potter book series. The exhibition will feature images from J.K. Rowling’s archive and the British Library’s collection.

7. Midlothian Winter Festival
Various venues, Midlothian, until December 31

This inaugural festival will see an eclectic range of festive events keep all ages and every interest entertained this season. Join in with the family fun at Christmas light switch-on events, visit Santa’s grotto, enjoy festive food or go shopping for the perfect Christmas tree or tasty festive treats at local shops and craft fairs. 8. The Wipers Times
Theatre Royal, Glasgow, until November 11

Telling a true and extraordinary story, audiences are transported to a bombed-out building during the First World War in the Belgian town of Ypres - mispronounced “Wipers” by British soldiers - where two officers discover a printing press and create a newspaper for the troops. Far from being a sombre journal about life in the trenches, they produce a very funny newspaper designed to lift the spirits of the men on the front line.

9. Billy Connolly, Portrait of a Lifetime
​People’s Palace, Glasgow, until December 10

Just over a week after the nation’s best-loved comedian was knighted at Buckingham Palace, head along to the city venue and take in the works of artists John Byrne, Jack Vettriano and Rachel Maclean who featured in BBC Scotland’s “Billy Connolly: Portrait of a Lifetime” over the summer. The three were commissioned with the task of creating a portrait of the Glasgow icon to mark his 75th birthday this month.

10. Inverness Film Festival
