MAXIE Bain: Beach Scenes and Other Obsessions is to be staged at the Bonhoga Gallery in Shetland.

The exhibition will run from November 18 to December 24.

After growing up in Shetland, Bain left for Aberdeen to study at Gray’s School of Art.

By the time he left Gray’s in the mid-1960s, he was already known in Scotland as an aspiring portrait painter.

In 1975 he moved to England to work on a graphic design course at Salisbury College of Art, but continued to involve himself in portrait painting.

He exhibited with the Royal Portrait Society in the Mall Galleries and at the National Portrait Gallery, London, as well as the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol.

After 40 years in the south of England Maxie returned to live in Shetland in 2015 and this is his first show in Shetland since then.

Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel is to stage his first-ever guitar camp in Scotland next May.

Emmanuel, recognised as one of the world’s leading guitar players, has been a major draw among guitar music fans in Scotland since he was first brought to the country by fellow guitarist Martin Taylor to appear at Taylor’s International Guitar Festival in Kirkmichael, Ayrshire almost twenty years ago.

Due to take place at Atholl Palace, Pitlochry from May 11-15, the camp will be a four-day event for players and music-lovers.

It will offer an opportunity to learn from and spend time with Emmanuel and American fingerstyle guitar masters Richard Smith and John Kowles and will offer a full programme of workshops and concerts designed to improve playing, provide tips and share the enthusiasm that Emmanuel shows onstage in performance.
