Police have seized more than 100 animals during a raid at what could be Scotland's largest puppy farm.

Nearly 90 dogs and puppies were uncovered at the East Mains of Ardlogie farm near Fyvie, in Aberdeenshire on Tuesday, after officers from the Scottish SPCA swarmed the property.

Puppies, which vets estimate could be around five days-old, were taken to the charity's rescue centre in Glasgow

A number of other animals, including rabbits and ferrets, were also seized.

It is the second time the farm has been under police scrutiny.

A Scottish SPCA undercover inspector said Operation Delphin aimed to tackle the “horrific trade” in puppy farming.

“We can confirm that we attended a property in the Aberdeenshire area yesterday and seized 105 animals. All of the animals are currently going through an intensive veterinary screening process to assess their overall health.

“Our current priority is tackling the cruel and illegal puppy trade, which puts profit before animal welfare, under the banner of Operation Delphin.

Detective Sergeant Brian Cumming said: “Police Scotland supported the SSPA and partner agencies in relation to a search warrant at a dog breeding centre in the Fyvie area on Tuesday, 14 November.

“Officers from Police Scotland will continue to work with the SSPCA and partner agencies.”
