THE clocks on a church tower, said to sit where a dragon was slain by St Serf in the sixth century, are being restored.

Horologist and steeple clock specialist David Weir carefully removed the hands from the clock faces on St Serfs in Dunning Perthshire.

A team from Historic Environment Scotland will increase the weight of the hands in a bid to improve the counterbalance in the clock mechanism and ensure it keeps to regular time.

The tower is part of the oldest section of the church, part of which dates back some 800 years. The building is said to mark the spot where St Serf battled a dragon.

The current bell was donated by Major Howard Drummond of Kelty in 1829. The clock was added in 1890.
