GRAEME MURTY admits he is ready to hand over the Rangers reins whenever the Ibrox board appoint a new Light Blues boss.

The 43-year-old has overseen wins over Hearts and Partick Thistle and a defeat to Hamilton since the sacking of Pedro Caixinha last month.

It is now four weeks since the Portuguese was removed from office but the search for his replacement is still ongoing.

Murty will take the Gers to Dundee tonight and believes it isn’t imperative to appoint a new boss before the double-header with Aberdeen next week.

He said: “If there is a new manager in place, I don’t think it would be difficult because they are two fantastic games. If it is me, then once again they are two fantastic games.

“Either way, the person in charge will have to prep a team ready to go and put on a really good display at home first and hopefully get three points. That is all we can think about.

“I was ready [to hand the job back] from the first day. I am ready to continue on as long as I am needed but I am ready to hand the reins over to whoever the board see fit to take charge.

“The board will decide what the structure will look like going forward. I am only in here to help smooth that process until that is put in place.”

Murty stepped into the dugout earlier this year following the departure of Mark Warburton and led Rangers to three wins and a draw in his six matches in charge.

Some Gers fans have become frustrated that the recruitment drive to replace Caixinha is still ongoing and are set to quiz the Light Blues board at the AGM next week.

But Murty will only focus on the job in hand as he looks to get back to winning ways at Dens Park tonight.

He said: “I didn’t expect anything – to be here talking from day one.

“It’s now day 28 and I’m still the same mindset. I didn’t expect to be sitting here and I am.

“I can’t deal with any other reality apart from this. If I waste my energy then I won’t be the guy who sits here and talks and gives proper answers about the processes we go through.

“I’d just be speculating and that does me or you no good.

“We have clarity in the fact that the process is ongoing. What we don’t have is a resolution.

“I know the fans want a resolution and someone in post to take the club forward. It will happen when it happens.

“Until that time a lot of useless speculation and names will be thrown into the ring but until the announcement comes out I can’t focus on that although I do appreciate where the fans are coming from.”

Murty was at Ibrox on Monday night to see the Under-20 side beat Partick Thistle and move into the fourth round of the Scottish Youth Cup.

It is the first team that is his main concern at present, though, and he is confident his Gers squad aren’t distracted by the managerial hunt.

Murty said: “I don’t think the players concern themselves with the outside world so I don’t think it’s a factor.

“What they have concerned themselves with is putting together a proper response to last week.

We can’t consider anything outside our wee group, we can’t consider the board, we can’t consider an appointment because to be perfectly honest we need to put a few things right from last week. I’ve seen that in training this week and it’s encouraging.

“If we didn’t have such a fantastic support staff it could impact on my role here but it hasn’t.

“Billy Kirkwood has taken the Under-20s and we are in daily dialogue with all the staff.

“We’re in close contact each day and we’re working to good guidelines.

“We make sure we touch base all the time so we’re not missing anything.”
