THERESA May had some respite from her Brexit woes as she switched on the Christmas lights outside Downing Street.

The Prime Minister was joined by three girls who live in her Maidenhead and Twyford constituency and each won a competition to design her official Christmas cards.

She was also treated to a performance of Silent Night by a children's choir during the event at Number 10.

She said: "These three girls each designed one of my Christmas cards I'm sending out to thousands of people.

"It's very good that you're here."

The 18ft 6in tree was from Gower Fresh Christmas Trees in Three Crosses, Wales.
