Police are investigating after a woman's body was found in a wooded area beside a road.

Officers were called to the scene on the B8062 Auchterarder to Dunning road at 12.05pm on Thursday following the discovery.

The woman's death is being treated as unexplained.

Officers appealed for information as they try to establish what happened.

Detective Superintendent Jim Smith said: "Enquiries are still at an early stage and it is vital that we establish the full circumstances which has led to this woman tragically losing her life.

"There will be a police presence in the area as we continue with enquiries and I would like to thank the local community for their patience so far.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious on this stretch of road in the preceding days to please come forward. No matter how insignificant the information you have it may prove vital in establishing what has happened.

"Also I would appeal to anyone who has travelled that stretch of road, or the surrounding area, who has dash cam footage, to please get in touch with the police."
